PRIMARY PURPOSE

To investigate events, systems, devices and/or failures and provide expert opinions; to provide guidance and leadership ethically and scientifically on complex engineering assignments; to contribute to overall profitability of the company through providing expert/engineering consulting services.

This is a remote role, working from a home-based office and requires working in a variety of environments and a combination of travel (local or regional). Prefer candidate reside in the greater Chicago area. Must have E.I.T. certification.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Surveys losses and loss scenes at residential and commercial buildings
  2. Conducts investigations to determine and document the scope of damage.
  3. Investigates and assesses damages due to failures and determines the origin of failure for insurers and litigation support.
  4. Determines and documents the failure analysis and causation of failures.
  5. Produces detailed reports outlining the cause and origin of losses and damages.
  6. Documents and maintains billable hours on a time and expense basis for failure analysis and forensic engineering projects for clients.
  7. Adheres to quality assurance measures and accreditation standards as mandated by all applicable rules, policies, protocols and procedures.
  8. Collaborates with the national team of forensic experts to leverage experiences and assist on projects.

  1. Performs other duties as assigned.
  2. Supports the organization's quality program(s).
Education & Licensing

Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited college or university. Engineer-in-Training Certification required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

When applicable and appropriate, consideration will be given to reasonable accommodations.

Physical requirements include the ability to stand, walk, kneel, squat, bend, climb, crawl, reach overhead, lift up to 50 pounds, push/pull up to 100 pounds, and drive for up to 4 hours per day. The role also involves mental acuity, good judgment, and discretion. The ability to handle work-related stress and meet deadlines is essential.

As required by law, Sedgwick provides a reasonable range of compensation for roles that may be hired in jurisdictions requiring pay transparency in job postings. The starting pay range for this role in the specified jurisdiction is $75,000-$90,000. A comprehensive benefits package is offered including medical, dental, vision, 401k and matching, PTO, disability and life insurance, employee assistance, flexible spending or health savings account, and other voluntary benefits.
