Job summary

Mead & Hunt in California is seeking a structural engineer to join our dams, hydropower, and water resources team. You will prepare engineering calculations and design documents for hydraulic structures such as dams, spillways, canals, pump stations, and valve houses, and collaborate with project teams to deliver plans and schedules.

The ideal candidate has a ABET-accredited civil/structural/architectural engineering degree, at least two years of experience, strong written and verbal

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited Bachelor's degree in civil, structural or architectural engineering.
• At least two years of relevant structural engineering experience.
• EIT certification is a plus and strong communication skills are required.
• Knowledge of California Building Code and ASCE 7 is preferred.
• Experience with hydraulic structures design and report writing is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Preparing engineering calculations and design documents for hydraulic structures and other structural engineering projects, including dams, spillways, canals, pump stations, and valve houses.
• Collaborating with project team members to prepare calculations, reports, specifications, plans, and schedules.
• Supporting with condition assessments of existing structures.
• Assisting with the development of probable construction cost estimates.
• Visiting project sites to collect data and monitor progress.
• Supporting construction administration for projects in construction
• Assisting with client contact and communication pertaining to specific projects.
• Attending client meetings when necessary.

• A valid driver’s license and some travel will be required.

The successful candidate must have:

• Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in civil, structural or architectural engineering from an ABET accredited college or university.
• At least two (2) years of relevant structural engineering experience.

The ideal candidate will have any/all of the following:

• EIT certification
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Experience working in a multi-disciplinary project team.

• Knowledge of/experience with the design of hydraulic structures.
• Strong technical writing skills and experience writing reports, specifications, and technical memorandums.
• Knowledge of/experience with California Building Code, ASCE 7, ACI 318, ACI 350, and AISC 360.
• Experience with structural engineering software programs including finite element analysis and CAD programs such as RISA 3D, SAP2000, and AutoCAD.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license is considered an asset, though it is not required.

Hourly Wage Range: $40.86 to $54.32 – Actual compensation may vary due to other factors such as: Experience, skill set or location.
