Job summary

Mead & Hunt, Inc. in Seattle seeks a Senior Structural Engineer to lead hydraulic structure design within the dams, hydropower, and water resources team. You will manage scope, schedule, and budget, and review plans for bid and construction.

The ideal candidate has a PE license, ABET degree in civil/structural engineering, 8+ years of relevant experience, and strong communication. Travel may be required and mentoring on the team is encouraged.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil/structural engineering from an ABET-accredited college.
• At least eight years of relevant structural engineering experience.
• PE license in any state; ability to obtain California license within 12 months.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design of hydraulic structures and other structural projects (dams, spillways, canals, pump stations, valve houses).
• Serve as project manager with responsibility for scope, schedule and budget.
• Oversee plans, calculations, specifications, and other design documents for bidding and construction.
• Review and apply professional seals to final plans, specifications, and reports.

Responsibilities include:

• Leading the design of hydraulic structures and other structural engineering projects, including projects related to dams, spillways, canals, pump stations, valve houses, and other hydraulic structures.
• Serving as a project manager responsible for scope, schedule and budget.
• Overseeing the preparation of plans, calculations, specifications, and other design documents for bidding and construction.
• Serving as an engineer in responsible charge of reviewing, approving, and applying professional engineering seals to final plans, specifications, and reports.
• Performing condition assessments of existing structures.
• Evaluating and analyzing existing structures.
• Conducting field inspections of project sites to assess existing conditions.
• Supporting construction administration for projects in construction.
• Mentoring and providing guidance to less experienced team members.
• Providing QA/QC.
• Client management.
• Attending day and night client meetings as necessary.
• Conducting necessary travel.

The successful candidate must have:

• A bachelor's degree (or higher) in civil or structural engineering, or architectural engineering (with an emphasis on structures) from an ABET accredited college or university
• At least eight (8) years of relevant structural engineering work experience
• Professional Engineer (PE) license in any state with the ability to obtain a license in California within twelve (12) months of being hired.

The ideal candidate will have any/all of the following:

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience working in a multi-disciplinary project team setting to deliver construction documents and reports.
• Experience designing and analyzing hydraulic structures and other water-related structural projects.
• Strong technical writing skills and experience writing reports, specifications, and technical memorandums.
• Both client and project management experience.
• Experience preparing proposals by developing scopes of work, cost estimates, and project schedules.
• Knowledge of California Building Code, ASCE 7, ACI 350, and AISC 360.
• Experience with Army Corps of Engineers Engineering Manuals related to hydraulic structures and FERC Engineering Guidelines.
• Experience with seismic evaluations and earthquake resistant designs.
• Experience with structural engineering software programs including finite element analysis and CAD programs such as RISA 3D, SAP2000, and AutoCAD.
• Mentoring experience.
• A Structural Engineer (SE) license.

Salary Range: $120,000 to $166,000 - Actual compensation may vary due to other factors such as: experience, skill set or location.
