Job description

A well-funded construction startup in the Atlanta area is hiring a Structural Engineer to join its founding engineering team. The company delivers logistics facilities, light industrial warehouses, and multistory parking structures through a standardized, product-based model. It offers clients turnkey, fixed price delivery backed by speed and cost certainty.

This is a rare chance to rethink how buildings are engineered and delivered. Instead of engineering each project from scratch, you will develop standardized, repeatable structural systems that can be built quickly and consistently across many sites. As an early member of the team, you will help build the engineering function's standards, tools, and processes from the ground up. If you want your work to have impact at scale, this role is built for you.

What You Will Do

As a Structural Engineer, you will develop and optimize steel, reinforced concrete, composite, and precast concrete systems for the company's standardized building products. You will coordinate and collaborate closely with architecture, fire-protection, civil engineering, geotechnical and component manufacturing (i.e. precast); you will help define the standard components and design rules behind each product. All of your work will be delivered in a BIM-based environment, where you will also guide designers and drafters.

  • You will design and optimize steel, precast, reinforced concrete, and composite structural systems; developing standardized, repeatable solutions for rapid delivery.
  • You will prepare preliminary quantities, calculations, system concepts, and engineering analyses for projects of varying complexity.
  • You will lead structural concept development with architecture, civil, fire-protection, geotechnical and component manufacturing; you will help define standard components, interfaces, and design rules.
  • You will guide execution design for quality, compliance, constructability, and safety; reviewing plans, specifications, vendor drawings, and test reports.
  • You will develop plans, specifications, observation reports, and technical requirements for fabrication and construction tender packages.
  • You will coordinate with offsite manufacturing and fabrication partners so that structural designs are optimized for factory production and efficient field assembly.
  • You will analyze geotechnical data, soil reports, and site conditions with foundation design, and you will make sure designs comply with environmental regulations and governmental codes.
  • You will coordinate with external engineering offices, inspection engineers, and authorities, and you will support proposals, estimating, procurement, and construction.
  • You will help field teams resolve unforeseen conditions, construction issues, and technical questions in order to continuously improve the product.
  • You will help build the structural engineering function’s standards, tools, and workflows, and you will contribute beyond a traditional structural engineering role whenever the business needs it.
What You Bring
  • You have five or more years of structural engineering experience including the design of steel, precast, reinforced concrete, and composite systems.
  • You hold a bachelor's degree or master’s degree from an accredited program in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • You hold a Professional Engineer license or are able to obtain one within a defined timeframe.
  • You have led structural design from concept through construction in coordination with architecture, civil, fire-protection, geotechnical, and component manufacturing.
  • You have prepared calculations, quantities, specifications, and construction and fabrication tender packages.
  • You are proficient with Revit and BIM workflows, RISA, LPile, or equivalent analysis tools and AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office.
  • You have reviewed vendor drawings, test reports, and construction submittals for compliance and quality.
  • You can explain technical concepts clearly to clients, project teams, and other nontechnical audiences.
  • You have supported proposals, estimating, or procurement alongside your design work.
What Will Set You Apart
  • You have designed standardized, repeatable structural systems for industrialized, modular, or design-build delivery rather than only custom projects.
  • You have helped define standard components, interfaces, and design rules for a repeatable building system.
  • You have an early adopter mindset with a track record of leveraging AI, automation, and modern collaboration platforms to increase efficiency and scalability.
  • You are willing to challenge traditional ways of working and identify innovative approaches to project execution.
  • You have coordinated with external engineering offices, third party inspectors, and authorities having jurisdiction.
  • You have supported construction teams in the field through unforeseen conditions and technical clarifications.
  • You have worked in a design-build or vertically integrated construction environment.
  • You have a track record of pursuing new delivery models and are comfortable operating at scale rather than project by project.
  • You have an entrepreneurial mindset and have helped build a team, function, or company from the ground up.
  • You thrive amid ambiguity and shifting priorities in a fast moving, early-stage environment.
Why Join
  • You will be part of the founding team and will help define how the company engineers its buildings.
  • You will design systems that are used again and again across a growing portfolio, so your work will have impact at scale.
  • You will have real ownership and visibility, with a direct line to leadership.
  • You will grow your career alongside the company as it expands across regions.

The base salary range for this position is $90,800-136,200 per year, depending on experience and qualifications. This role is also eligible for a 10% performance-based incentive bonus. In addition, the company offers a competitive benefits package that includes:

  • Health insurance
  • Vision insurance
  • Paid time off (PTO)
  • Paid holidays

This role is primarily based in the office, where you will spend extended periods at a computer on design, drafting, and BIM coordination. It also includes periodic travel to active construction sites, including overnight travel as needed.

Site visits may involve climbing ladders or scaffolding, accessing elevated or confined spaces, and exposure to weather, noise, dust, and heavy equipment. You will be required to follow OSHA and company safety protocols and to wear personal protective equipment, including a hard hat, safety glasses, steel toe boots, a high visibility vest, and a harness when required.

Confidentiality

This is a confidential search. The name of the company will be shared with qualified candidates later in the process. All applications will be handled with discretion.

Equal Opportunity Employer

The company is an Equal Opportunity Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, genetic information, gender identity, sexual orientation, or veteran status, in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local law.
