Job description

Bring your problem-solving mindset, entrepreneurial spirit, and established expertise to the New York, New York (Midtown) office of Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates, Inc. (WJE). We are seeking a seasoned Senior Structural Engineer with 20+ years of experience (i.e., Associate Principal) to help lead our diverse team of architects and engineers.

There is flexibility for this position to be based in WJE's offices in Princeton, New Jersey, or New Haven (Shelton), Connecticut.

Responsibilities:

1. Project management: including client development, project scoping, assembling and managing project teams, maintaining schedules and budgets, and managing client expectations and deliverables.
2. Technical leadership: applying sound engineering judgment, understanding codes and industry practices, collaborating across disciplines, and overseeing various structural engineering projects including investigations, design, analysis, repair, and renovation.
3. Mentorship: exemplifying WJE's culture of knowledge sharing and career development, both locally and company-wide.
4. Contributions to practice and objectives: participating in talent development, knowledge sharing, and industry involvement.

Qualifications/Competencies:

1. Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in New York or ability to obtain by comity; SE license a plus.
2. Master's degree in civil/structural engineering or related field.
3. Minimum twenty years of relevant experience in structural engineering, including project management and technical expertise in areas like failure investigation, structural analysis, and repair.
4. Industry-recognized expertise with materials such as concrete, steel, wood, masonry, etc.
5. Excellent communication skills (technical, graphical, written, verbal).

Physical Requirements:

Ability to travel, perform inspections, work at heights, safely operate equipment, lift up to 50 lbs., and drive as needed. Must be medically fit for PPE use and outdoor work.
