Our client is a well established, and growing structural engineering consulting firm that provides innovative, practical, and cost-effective engineering solutions for commercial, industrial, institutional, and residential projects in the Greater Pittsburgh, PA region. As the client base and project portfolio continue to expand, they are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Structural Engineer to join the team.
This position offers the opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects from concept through construction while collaborating with architects, contractors, developers, and fellow engineers. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical skills, excellent communication abilities, and a passion for delivering high-quality structural designs.
What you will do:
- Design structural systems for commercial, industrial, institutional, and residential projects from schematic design through construction administration.
- Perform structural analysis and calculations for steel, concrete, masonry, and wood structures while ensuring compliance with applicable building codes and engineering standards.
- Develop practical, economical, and innovative structural design solutions that meet project objectives.
- Coordinate structural designs with architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, civil, and geotechnical engineering disciplines to ensure seamless project execution.
- Review project specifications, architectural drawings, and field conditions to develop complete structural designs.
- Oversee and provide direction to CAD/Revit designers in the preparation of construction documents and structural drawings using AutoCAD and Revit.
- Review construction documents for quality, accuracy, and completeness prior to client submission.
- Participate in project planning meetings, design reviews, and coordination meetings with clients, architects, contractors, and other project stakeholders.
- Conduct site visits, field observations, and construction inspections as required to verify compliance with design intent.
- Respond to Requests for Information (RFIs), review shop drawings, and provide engineering support during construction.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining schedules, budgets, and quality standards.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering with a concentration in Structural Engineering
- Minimum of 3 years of structural engineering experience in a consulting environment preferred.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification required; Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred or ability to obtain licensure within a reasonable timeframe.
- Strong knowledge of applicable building codes, design standards, and industry best practices.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with clients and project teams.
Preferred Experience/Skills
- Technical knowledge with AM Structural System / RAM Steel, ENERCALC, STAAD.Pro, AutoCAD, Autodesk Revit, Microsoft Office Suite
- Structural analysis and design of steel, reinforced concrete, masonry, and wood structures.
- Preparation and review of construction documents.
- Construction administration and field observation.
- Working directly with clients, architects, and contractors throughout all phases of a project.
