Job summary

A leading engineering firm is seeking a Forensic Structural Engineer to investigate failures in building systems and manage multiple engineering projects. Ideal candidates will possess a B.S. in Civil or Architectural Engineering, over 10 years of experience, and be a Licensed Professional Engineer in Tennessee. The role requires strong communication skills and proficiency in relevant engineering codes. This is a full-time direct hire position with multiple openings across all areas of Engineering.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of structural engineering experience.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in Tennessee preferred.
  • Strong proficiency in relevant engineering codes and standards.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate failure cause & origin in building systems.
  • Conduct fieldwork to document damage from events.
  • Manage multiple engineering projects on time and within budget.

Skills

Strong written and oral communication skills
Fieldwork experience
Proficient in ICC, ASCE, AISC, ACI, NDS codes and standards

Education

B.S. in Civil or Architectural Engineering (ABET-accredited)

FORENSIC STRUCTURAL ENGINEER

  • Investigate failure cause & origin in building systems (steel, concrete, masonry, wood, roofing, envelopes)
  • Conduct fieldwork to document damage from natural and human-induced events (flood, wind, fire, earthquakes, design/construction defects)
  • Analyze design drawings, building codes, structural behavior, and construction practices
  • Produce scope-of-repair recommendations and detailed technical reports
  • Support litigation efforts, including Expert Testimony (depositions, trials, mediation, arbitration)

Client & Project Management

  • Interface with Clients, Code Officials, and Contractors
  • Manage multiple projects—on time and within budget
  • Retain and grow client relationships
  • Travel on short notice as required

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Civil or Architectural Engineering (ABET-accredited)
  • 10+ years of structural engineering experience
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in Tennessee (additional state registrations preferred)
  • Proficient in ICC, ASCE, AISC, ACI, NDS codes and standards
  • Fieldwork experience a must
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
