Job summary

Stantec in Houston, TX is seeking an entry-level Structural EIT to join our Buildings team. You will support the development of structural designs, drawings, models, and project documentation under experienced engineers, gaining hands-on exposure to design software and building codes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Structural/Architectural Engineering
• Pass the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam by first day of employment
• 0–3 years of relevant structural design, drafting, or engineering experience
• Previous internship, co-op, academic project, or professional experience involving structural or building design preferred

Responsibilities

• Develop structural design documentation, plans, models, and reports
• Create sketches, diagrams, calculations, and models for designs
• Use BIM to build 3D models of building structural systems
• Prepare drawings across project phases: floor plans, framing, sections, and details
• Perform basic structural calculations under guidance of experienced engineers
• Coordinate structural designs with architectural and other disciplines
• Review shop drawings, submittals, and RFIs
• Assist with site observations and field reports
• Attend project coordination meetings with internal and external teams
• Apply design codes and standards under supervision
• Assist with other design and project support tasks

Your Opportunity

Our Buildings team in Houston, TX is seeking an enthusiastic Structural EIT to join our engineering team providing design solutions for a variety of building projects. This is an entry-level opportunity for an individual looking to develop their structural design skills while working alongside experienced engineers and designers.

In this role, you will work under the supervision and direction of experienced engineers, supporting the development of structural designs, drawings, models, and project documentation. You will contribute as a team member on projects of varying size and complexity while gaining practical experience with structural systems, building codes, design software, and project delivery.

Your Key Responsibilities

• Supports project teams in the development of structural design documentation, plans, models, and reports

• Assists in the development of structural designs through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, calculations, and other visual formats

• Utilizes BIM technologies to develop three-dimensional models of building structural systems

• Prepares and revises drawings and documentation during various project phases, including floor plans, framing plans, diagrams, sections, and details

• Performs basic structural calculations for building elements and well-defined structural systems under the guidance of experienced engineers

• Assists with coordination of structural designs with architectural and other engineering disciplines

• Assists in the review of shop drawings and submittals and preparation of responses to RFIs

• Assists with site observations and preparation of field observation reports as needed

• Attends project coordination meetings with internal team members and external consultants

• Applies applicable design standards, building codes, and established engineering practices under the direction of experienced engineers

• Performs other structural design and project support activities as assigned

Your Capabilities and Credentials

• Basic understanding of structural engineering and building design principles

• Familiarity with gravity and lateral force-resisting structural systems

• Basic knowledge of structural materials such as steel, concrete, masonry, and wood

• Familiarity with structural design codes, standards, and applicable building codes

• Basic understanding of construction drawings and engineering documentation

• Ability to develop and interpret plans, sections, details, and structural models

• Ability to check own work for accuracy and completeness and manage assigned tasks to meet project schedules

• Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary project team

• Strong communication, organizational, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills

• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite

• Experience with Revit is preferred

• Familiarity with Newforma, RAM Structural System, Tekla Structural Designer, RISA, Enercalc, or similar structural design software is a plus

Education and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, Structural Engineering, or Architectural Engineering

• Pass the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam to obtain Engineering In Training (EIT) credential by the first day of employment

• 0-3 years of relevant structural design, drafting, or engineering experience

• Previous internship, co-op, academic project, or professional experience involving structural or building design is preferred
