Paul J. Ford & Company in Columbus, OH is seeking a Structural Designer Intern to support the structural engineering team. The role offers hands-on experience in calculations, drawings, and specifications under licensed engineers, with exposure to Revit, AutoCAD and related design tools.

Current students pursuing a B.S. in Civil or Structural Engineering (junior or senior) will gain practical design experience, learn industry codes (IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, ACI), and participate in project meetings

Qualifications

• Actively pursuing a BS in Civil or Structural Engineering (junior or senior).
• Familiarity with AutoCAD or Revit is preferred.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist with structural design and analysis for projects involving steel, concrete, masonry, and wood under the guidance of a supervisor.
• Support the preparation of basic design calculations and project documentation.
• Learn and utilize computer-assisted engineering software (e.g., Revit, AutoCAD, RISA) to develop plans, sections, and details.
• Assist in researching design options, building codes, and material specifications.
• Prepare redline revisions for existing drawings to ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Coordinate with CAD technicians and engineers to ensure project files are organized and deliverables are met.
• Participate in internal project meetings and shadow engineers during client or site visits to learn project workflows.
• Support the preparation of cost estimates and project schedules by gathering necessary data.
• Follow established QA/QC procedures to check work for accuracy.
• Maintain organized project files, documentation, and calculations in accordance with company standards.
