Job summary

Sargent & Lundy in the United States is seeking a seasoned structural designer to join our hybrid team. You will develop structural layout drawings in a 3-D model, lead coordination across disciplines, and guide designers through detailed design phases for an integrated structural model.

You will mentor junior drafters, support field data gathering, and collaborate with engineers on challenging steel and concrete design issues. Prior CAD proficiency and 10+ years of experience are valued.

Qualifications

• Foundational technical program including drafting, or HS diploma with drafting coursework.
• Ten (10) or more years of detailed design experience in structural steel and reinforced concrete drawings.
• Proficiency with design software tools for 3D plant layout models.
• Experience reviewing structural layout drawings of steel frames, connections, concrete members, supports, foundations, and rebar detailing.
• Ability to interface with engineering and design disciplines in power plant design.

Description

This position allows for a hybrid work schedule with a mix of work spent on site and working remote from home.

• As a member of the structural design team, this position will offer you the opportunity to work with multi-disciplined engineering and design project teams in developing structural physical layout drawings in a 3-D model
• Challenging assignments that include the design of structural supports and foundations, and investigating, trouble-shooting, and solving a wide variety of structural design issues
• Utilize 3D modeling software tools to generate structural design schematics
• Act as the structural design team lead in the coordination of detailed design phases for all aspects of an integrated structural design model.
• Participate in the coordination of detailed design phases for all aspects of an integrated structural design model
• Coordinate and provide guidance to other designers and project team members to ensure a complete and timely design.
• Independently and as a member of a design team, plan and execute structural design deliverables
• There may be the opportunity to accompany and assist senior designers and engineers in field walkdowns and data gathering at client facilities
• Challenging assignments that include the design of structural supports and foundations, and investigating, trouble-shooting, and solving a wide variety of structural design issues. - Generate structural design schematics.
• Provide guidance as a mentor in the development of less experienced drafters and designers.

Qualifications

Essential skills and experience:

• A foundational undergratuate program in a technical area including drafting, or a high school diploma and 1 or more years drafting course work or equivalent technical experience
• Ten (10) or more years of detailed design experience in the development of structural steel design and reinforced concrete design drawings
• Proficiency with design software tools in executing 3D plant layout models
• Experience in the review of structural layout drawings involving steel frames, connections, concrete members, equipment and piping supports, foundations, and rebar detailing
• Ability to interface with engineering and design teams of other disciplines in the power plant design process

Valued but not required experience:

• Proficiency with MicroStation and or AutoCAD
• Associates Degree in Computer Aided Design
• Experience using AutoCad and Microstation software.
• Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
• Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology, including the ability to relate various equipment to a technical design.

Compensation Range

$64,817 - $93,201
