Job summary

Sedgman USA is seeking a Structural Designer to join our Phoenix, Arizona team. You will translate engineering concepts into detailed 2D and 3D drawings for mining facilities, including conveyor galleries and bunker structures.

You will collaborate with mechanical, civil, and electrical teams, ensure compliance with safety and codes, and develop BOMs for fabrication and cost estimation. This role emphasizes accuracy, schedule, and client satisfaction.

Qualifications

  • Associate Diploma in CAD or equivalent training.
  • 5–7 years in structural drafting, mining or engineering environment.
  • Ability to translate concepts into a 3D design.
  • Strong AutoCAD 3D proficiency; Revit/Navisworks/Tekla is a plus.
  • Solid understanding of steel connections and concrete foundations.

Responsibilities

  • Produce accurate structural drawings (plans, elevations, sections) and 3D models using Revit, AutoCAD, or Tekla Structures.
  • Develop detailed designs for steel, concrete, and foundations for mining infrastructure.
  • Coordinate with mechanical and electrical teams, perform clash detection (Navisworks).
  • Ensure designs meet mining safety codes, building codes, QA/QC requirements.
  • Review vendor drawings and visit sites to verify measurements and support construction.
  • Prepare BOMs and list components for fabrication and cost estimation.
  • Focus on schedule, quality and client satisfaction.
  • Participate in design reviews and advise on drafting challenges and compliance.
  • Follow Change Management for engineering design.
  • Maintain drawing list and % complete status.
  • Align drawings with Sedgman standard specs and drawings.

Job description

Sedgman USA is looking for a Structural Designer to join our team in our Phoenix, Arizona office. The ideal candidate will have experience in creating 2D and 3D models of steel and concrete structures used in mining (such as conveyor galleries, crusher stations and bunker structures).

The Structural Designer translates conceptual designs from structural engineers into actionable technical plans that meet safety standards, structural engineering principles, and industry codes. They will work closely with multi-disciplinary teams (mechanical, civil, and electrical) on EPCM projects and will beinvolved in the entire design process.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Produce accurate detailed structural drawings (plans, elevations, sections) and 3D models using Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, or Tekla Structures.

  • Develop detailed designs for structural steelwork, reinforced concrete, and foundations for both underground and surface mining infrastructure.

  • Coordinate with mechanical and electrical teams to resolve conflicts, performing clash detection of models in software like Navisworks.

  • Ensure designs comply with applicable mining safety codes, regional building codes, and company quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) requirements.

  • Review vendor equipment drawings and conduct field visits to verify measurements, assess existing structures, or support construction activities.

  • Prepare bills of materials (BOM), list structural components, and compute engineering data for fabrication and cost estimation.

  • Focus on meeting expectations for schedule, quality and client satisfaction.

  • Participate in the review of designs and advise on technical drafting difficulties or compliance requirements as appropriate

  • Comply with the Change Management process for engineering design

  • Upkeep of drawing list and percentage complete status

  • Understand Sedgman standard specifications and typical/standard drawings to reflect current industry standards

About You
  • Associate Diploma in CAD / or any other formal training certificates

  • Must have 5 – 7 years’ experience instructural drafting, with specific experience in the mining industry, and/or engineering consulting firm.

  • Ability to take an engineering concept and convert it into a 3D design

  • High proficiency in AutoCAD 3D is essential; experience with Autodesk Revit, Navisworks or Tekla Structures considered an asset.

  • Strong understanding of steel connection detailing, concrete foundations, and structural steel standards.

  • Strong attention to detail; Exceptional precision in checking drawings for errors before

  • Skills in MS Office Suite
