Job summary

Universal Resources, Inc. seeks an experienced drafter/designer for heavy industrial projects in Birmingham, AL. You will create 3D models and drawings for structural steel, concrete, and ductwork, develop layouts, and review vendor drawings.

Expect collaboration with multiple disciplines, clients, and field teams. Requirements include 20+ years in heavy industrial or power plants, strong drawing notes, and the ability to work both independently and in teams.

Qualifications

• 20+ years heavy industrial/power plant experience.
• Ability to produce clear, concise drawing notes and coordinate with plant staff, design engineers and vendors.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD; 3D modeling strongly preferred; experience with Bentley/MicroStation and/or Advanced Steel is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Produce 3D models and design drawings for structural steel, reinforced concrete, and/or ductwork.
• Prepare layouts and conceptual designs.
• Review vendor shop fabrication drawings; prepare material takeoffs and assist with cost estimates.
• Coordinate work with other disciplines, clients, and contractors.
• Perform site walk-downs for field verification and constructability.

Job description

Job responsibilities include producing 3D models and design drawings for structural steel, reinforced concrete, and/or ductwork, preparing layouts and conceptual designs, reviewing vendor shop fabrication drawings, preparing material takeoffs and assist with cost estimates, coordinating work with other disciplines, clients, and contractors, and performing site walk-downs for field verification and to address constructability.

20+ years heavy industrial/power plant experience. Skillsets and expertise required for this position include proficient using AutoCAD, 3D modeling experience is strongly preferred, experience in Microsoft/Bentley and/or Advanced steel structural software is preferred, steel/concrete detailing background is a plus. Must be able to produce clear, concise drawing notes, able to work effectively both as part of a team and independently, and the ability to build effective relationships with plant staff, design engineering staff and/or vendors.
