Job summary

Kent Companies seeks a Structural Concrete Estimator to prepare detailed cost estimates, takeoffs, and bid proposals for commercial projects. You will review contracts, drawings and specifications to define scope, pricing, and required contingencies in line with our bid strategy and profit goals.

Responsibilities include subcontractor pricing, value engineering input, and coordination with preconstruction, vendors and field teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in construction management or engineering, or 5 years of concrete estimating experience.
• Experience managing concrete preconstruction processes and relationships with subs.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills; meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Prepare complete, accurate project takeoffs and estimates.
• Solicit subcontractor pricing and evaluate prequalification requirements.
• Develop proposals with bid strategy and exclusions.
• Follow up with customers to discuss pricing and scope.
• Assist handoff to project management and field teams.

Job description

Summary The structural concrete estimator provides accurate bid proposals and scope analysis for potential projects including pricing estimates on new projects The structural estimator reviews analyzes and interprets contract documents specifications drawings and reference information to develop detailed and comprehensive project cost estimates and exercises sound judgment to arrive at the complete cost estimate with appropriate profit margins to achieve division goals

Duties and Responsibilities

Preconstruction and Business DevelopmentEnsures pertinent information is collected and timely follow ups are executed to close internal and external loopsEstablishes and maintains robust relationships with customers vendors subcontractors and key stakeholdersIdentifies competitive edge and risks to each project; communicates and evaluates with the preconstruction and division managersProvides value engineering and design assist solutions including costschedule impactsEstimatingReviews contractual requirements specifications and drawings and develops a plan for the project construction to be utilized as the basis of the cost estimating processAccurately conducts a thorough and detailed project take off to quantify all items in the scopeCreates the complete estimate accounting for all aspects of the scope of work including correct alternates general conditions inputting valid vendor and subcontractor pricing materials and equipment costs and proper labor production and wage rates aligned with the bid strategySolicits subcontractor and supplier pricing reviewing prequalification requirements and determining the best qualified subcontractorsIdentifies project specific risk issues the potential impact on Kent Companies and potential strategies to help mitigate those risksPrepare accurate and comprehensive proposals including durations assumptions a complete list of exclusions and all required documentation for submission Follow up with each customer the next business day to gather feedback on pricing and scope promote the Kent differentiators and request a meeting with each customer to discuss how Kent can provide value to the projectProvide timely follow up closure and tracking of all identified opportunitiesParticipate in post bid interviews when requested to provide accurate details about the scope sequence assumptions expectations and exclusionsManagementMaintains a preconstruction schedule including a bid calendar to ensure time management of deadlinesAssists with the project hand off to the project management and field operations team to ensure a clear understanding of project scope build assumptions schedule and manpower assumptionsIdentifies potential improvements that innovate the estimating processes to ensure accurate estimates consistent with divisional costsOther Duties Please note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities duties or responsibilities required of the employee for this job Duties and Responsibilities are not comprehensive and can be changed at any time with or without notice

Required Experience Education and Qualifications

Bachelors degree in construction management or engineering or 5 years of concrete structural estimating experienceProven experience managing concrete preconstruction processesIn depth knowledge of construction principlespractices is requiredExperience building relationships and working with subcontractors and vendorsExcellent communication and organizational skillsExcels in a team environment with a strong ability to work independentlyExcellent at meeting deadlines and striving for accuracy in all submittalsValid drivers licenseMust have reliable transportation to the workplaces job locationsAbility to pass drug screeningMust be able to work in the United States without corporate sponsorship now and in the future

Preferred education and experience

Bachelors degree in Concrete Industry Management Construction Science or Engineering plus 5 years of concrete structural estimating experience10 years working as a Structural Estimator for a Commercial Concrete specialty sub contractorPractical leadership abilities like motivation goal setting and conflict managementOrganizational skills including time management delegation prioritization and multitaskingCreative and results oriented with a keen sense of urgency and self motivation

Work Environment

Physical Demand This position works in a typical office environment and requires extended periods of sitting Position type travel and expected hours of work This is a full time office position Typical hours will range from 45 50 hours per week and are subject to change This role requires the ability to work nontypical days and irregular hours based on construction schedules Due to the critical nature of the role accepting phone calls even during nontypical workdays and hours is also necessary
