Summer Intern Program

Job summary

Dewberry is seeking a Structures (Bridge) Engineering Intern for Summer 2027 to join our Mechanicsburg, PA office. This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic student to grow professionally while contributing to bridge and transportation projects.

Local candidates preferred; no housing stipend will be provided. You will work on design and construction-related tasks using applicable software as part of a collaborative team.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a BS or MS in Civil Engineering.
• Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
• Proficiency using CADD (Microstation preferred).
• Desire to work in a team environment.
• Prior PennDOT experience is preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

• Designs simple and complex bridges and other transportation structures using applicable software.
• Develops contract plans, prepares engineer's estimates and construction specifications.
• Provides construction support services on projects.

Responsibilities

• The successful candidate will be part of a team designing simple and complex bridges (primarily of steel and concrete construction) and a variety of transportation related structures (retaining walls, culverts, sign structures, and other miscellaneous structures) using applicable software.
• The candidate will also be involved in the development of contract plans, the preparation of engineer's estimates and construction specifications, and performing construction support services.

Required Skills & Required Experience

Summer Intern Program

During the summer intern program, interns gain hands-on project experience, develop technical skills, and put their classroom knowledge into action. Our interns are assigned meaningful work and are given the opportunity to work on projects similar to what they would be engaging with as a full-time employee.

Our interns get the opportunity to participate in a series of workshops and events, including:

• Networking opportunities to meet other interns, staff, and senior leaders across the business.
• Learning about our services, projects, and clients.
• Professional development workshops, including a career planning workshop and a DiSC assessment to learn more about themselves and how to work effectively with others.
• Summer-long group project where interns work alongside firm leaders to address issues that will impact our future strategy.
