Job summary

Thornton Tomasetti in Chicago is seeking a BIM Modeler to support the design and documentation of complex projects using the latest modeling software. In this role, you’ll be responsible for creating 3D parametric models, translating them into clear 2D drawings, and producing detailed construction documents.

The ideal candidate is self-directed, technically skilled, and comfortable working across all phases of the building design process.

Qualifications

Associate's degree in Drafting & Design or equivalent experience focused in building construction.
Experience providing plan preparation and project deliverable drawings and files for building structures and foundations.
Significant design experience and understanding of AutoCAD and Revit.
Working knowledge of structural building components, materials, standard techniques, and print reading.
Excellent understanding of 3D parametric modeling to maximize an integrated building model.
Strong rendering and graphic formats skills; output experience.
Experience in Rhino, Grasshopper, TEKLA, and BIM data exchanges preferred.

Responsibilities

Create 2D CAD/3D BIM models to a high level of accuracy.
Develop structural plans, sections, elevations and details from a 3D BIM model for projects of all sizes and technical complexities.
Convert initial concepts, sketches, or hand-drawn designs into accurate CAD representations.
Work closely with structural engineers and other team members to ensure accurate representation and implementation of designs.
Annotate, dimension and detail production drawings in conformance to standards and practices.
Set up, manage, and plot large sheets sets including revisions and markups for each project.
Assist and direct CAD/BIM workflow.
Set up and geo-locate multiple models for a single project.
Interface with engineers, clients, and consultants; coordinate BIM content and model exchanges.
Continued development of best practices for BIM.
