Job summary

Amentum is seeking a Structural and Corrosion Technician to support MARMC Code 242 in Norfolk, VA. The role focuses on inspecting and maintaining shipboard tanks, voids, and topside structures, using specialized test equipment and interpreting blueprints.

You will provide on-the-job training, deliver written reports, and participate in conferences, with required Secret clearance and strong communication skills. This is an hourly, overtime-eligible position under SCA.

Qualifications

  • Five (5) years within last ten (7) years in assessment, repair, and maintenance of tanks, voids, spaces/compartments, and topside areas on US Navy ships.
  • Minimum of three (3) years hands-on experience inspecting ship tanks, voids, and spaces/compartments; knowledge of welding per MIL Standard 1689 & IAW MRCs G1N5 & G1N6.
  • Knowledge of sheet metal, preservation, insulation, piping, and electrical systems on US Navy ships.
  • Experience in preservation and/or structural/coatings assessments.
  • Must obtain and maintain a Secret US Government Clearance; US citizenship required.
  • Strong analytical and communication (oral and written) skills.

Job DescriptionAre you looking to continue your career supporting the world's finest Navy? Amentum may have the position you are looking for. We have an immediate opening for a Structural and Corrosion Technician to support our Mid-Atlantic Regional Maintenance Center (MARMC) Code 242 customer in Norfolk, VA.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Provide technical assistance, assessments, inspection, troubleshooting, corrective actions, adjustments/repairs, and grooms on shipboard tanks, voids, and topside structure and coatings
  • Use appropriate measuring/test equipment to obtain data for evaluation
  • Provide written visit debrief and written reports
  • Attend conferences and meetings
  • Provide On-The-Job Training to the ship's force during shipboard evolutions
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret blueprints, technical drawings, diagrams, and sketches
Minimum Requirements
  • Five (5) years of experience within the last ten (7) years of experience in the assessment, repair, and maintenance of tanks, voids, spaces/compartments, and topside areas on US Navy ships.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of specialized hands-on experience working and inspecting ship tanks, voids, and spaces/compartments. Demonstrated knowledge of welding requirements as defined in MIL Standard 1689 & IAW MRCs G1N5 & G1N6.
  • Demonstrated knowledge regarding sheet metal, preservation, insulation, piping, and electrical systems on US Navy Ships.
  • Must show technical experience in the field of preservation and/or structural/coatings assessments.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret US Government Clearance. Note: US Citizenship is required to obtain a Secret Clearance.
  • Must be self-motivated, customer-oriented, and possess strong analytical and communication (oral and written) skills.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to walk long distances from parking facilities to ships across paved, unpaved, and often unlevel surfaces.
  • Must be able to traverse steep stairs, vertical ladders, watertight hatches, doors, and scuttles.
  • Must be able to work on elevated surfaces, scaffolding, masts, and catwalks using fall protection principles and fall-arresting equipment.
  • May be required to work in confined spaces such as tanks, voids, and plenums.
  • Must be able to lift and carry a tool bag or backpack weighing up to 35 lbs. as part of a normal workday.
Preferred Qualifications
  • certifications include: AMPP CIP Level 1, S-CAT Technician, and/or NBPI.
  • Experience as a member of a US Navy Engineering Activity or US Navy Shipboard Engineering Department
Service Contract Act (SCA) Compensation & Benefits

This is an hourly, overtime-eligible position that falls under the Service Contract Act (SCA). In accordance with the Health and Welfare provisions of the SCA, and in addition to your base hourly rate, you may be eligible to receive an additional health and welfare payment for each hour you work to ensure compliance with the minimums set forth by the act. The amount you are entitled to receive will vary depending upon the fringe benefits you select now and in the future.

Compensation Details

$35.00 - 40.00
