Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking a structural analysis engineer to support ground support equipment and manufacturing tooling. The role involves performing strength assessments with classical analysis and FEA, reviewing stress analyses, and guiding designers on stress and fracture analysis.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams on design development and trade studies. Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in engineering and 3+ years of experience with FEMs (Ansys/NX/Nastran).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (minimum) with at least 3 years of experience analyzing ground support equipment (GSE) or tooling in the automotive, aerospace or similar industry.
  • Experience creating and validating finite element models (FEMs) using Ansys or NX Simulation with Nastran.
  • Proficiency in generating free-body diagrams to calculate internal loads and reaction forces, and in simplifying and idealizing structural models.

Responsibilities

  • Perform strength assessments utilizing both classical analysis techniques and finite element analysis (FEA) for tooling and ground support equipment (GSE).
  • Document and review stress analyses to facilitate the release of engineering drawings and related documentation.
  • Mentor tooling designers on best practices in stress, stability, and fracture analysis.
  • Provide technical guidance on design concepts, including risk, cost, and performance trade-offs.
  • Support cross-functional teams with input for design development, analysis, and trade studies.
  • Lead conceptual and detailed analysis of tooling and equipment for the manufacture and assembly of structural components, mechanical/actuated systems, and hydraulic and fluid systems.

This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.

As a member of this highly skilled and collaborative team, you will be responsible for providing structural analysis support for ground support equipment (GSE) and manufacturing tooling, including but not limited to machining fixtures, assembly fixtures, and mechanical systems. Your responsibilities will include conducting structural analyses, reviewing and evaluating both internally developed and vendor-produced designs, and offering structural design consultations to designers and external partners.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (minimum), with at least 3 years of experience analyzing ground support equipment (GSE) or tooling in the automotive, aerospace or similar industry
  • Experience creating and validating finite element models (FEMs) using Ansys or NX Simulation with Nastran
  • Proven Experience of FEA using 1D, 2D & 3D elements with models containing weldments, machined parts, and weldments
  • Proficiency in generating free-body diagrams to calculate internal loads and reaction forces, and in simplifying and idealizing structural
