Job summary

The Lyndon Elementary String Teaching Artist position is a part-time, before-school role in Boston, offering hourly pay and opportunities to plan and lead string rehearsals under the guidance of Ensemble Directors and a Program Manager. You will work with 5–14 year olds, focusing on violin/viola/cello/double bass technique, repertoire, sight-reading, and ear-training.

Qualifications

• Experience with young string players (ages 5–14) in group and private lessons.
• Knowledge of string pedagogy, repertoire, technique, and classroom management.
• Clear written and in-person communication skills.
• Ability to teach primary instrument and basic proficiency in other strings.
• Willingness to collaborate with school staff and attend meetings.

Responsibilities

• Team teach and support full-orchestra rehearsals of 10–20 students
• Lead sectionals, small groups, and private lessons as planned by Ensemble Directors
• Set weekly goals for sectional rehearsals and lessons
• Provide student progress updates and individual learning plans with mid-year/year-end evaluations
• Collaborate with SEL and curriculum specialists for inclusive teaching practices
