Job summary

Duke University’s String School is seeking a Part-Time String Bass Instructor. You will provide individual and small group instruction across beginner to advanced levels, shaping young musicians in a collaborative program under the Department of Music.

Ideal candidates hold a Bachelor’s degree in Bass Performance or Music Education with experience in Suzuki and traditional pedagogy. Anticipated hourly rate is $45+/hr.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Bass Performance or Music Education.
  • Experience teaching string bass to elementary, middle, and/or high school students.
  • Experience with Suzuki and traditional pedagogy.

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one and small group instruction to students ranging from beginner to advanced levels.
  • Select and teach scales, etudes, and repertoire tailored to each student’s development.
  • Coach chamber ensembles and support collaborative performance experiences.
  • Prepare students for solo recitals, concerts, and ensemble performances.
  • Partner with fellow String School instructors, parents, volunteers, and program leadership to support student success.
  • Participate in monthly teacher meetings and contribute to program planning and improvement.
