Job summary

BCforward is seeking a Mechanical Integrity Engineer - Turbomachinery (Stress) to join our team in Novi, MI. The role focuses on performing FEA for stress, thermal, acoustic, and structural analyses using Ansys Workbench and Mechanical APDL to inform design decisions and program milestones.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience with Ansys Workbench and Mechanical APDL performing FEA for stress, thermal, and dynamic analyses.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field; Master’s preferred.
  • Strong mechanical design methodology knowledge with cross-discipline understanding of aerodynamics, thermodynamics, manufacturing, and cost engineering.
  • Ability to apply logical, analytical, and innovative thinking to solve complex technical problems and balance technical and business factors.
  • Experience with product integrity, liability, and certification frameworks.
  • Clear communication and presentation skills with the ability to present protected information to stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct aeros/thermal, acoustic, and structural mechanical design and analysis for turbomachinery components.
  • Develop, select, and refine numerical models, define interdisciplinary boundary conditions, and execute simulations with Ansys tools.
  • Plan and support experiments on rigs and engines, analyze results, and correlate with analytical and empirical models.
  • Perform static and dynamic stress analysis, fracture and fatigue assessments, and recommend design optimizations using Robust Engineering principles.
  • Own defined technical work packages and deliver to cost, schedule, and quality objectives across multiple programs.
  • Serve as a point of contact within the discipline, provide advisory support, and share subject-matter knowledge across teams.
  • Support product integrity, liability, and certification frameworks and prepare technical presentations for stakeholders.
  • Promote continuous improvement of tools, processes, and methods across the engineering function.

Job Description

We are seeking a Mechanical Integrity Engineer - Turbomachinery (Stress) to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in finite element analysis using Ansys Workbench and Mechanical APDL and a proven ability to deliver robust stress, thermal, acoustic, and structural analyses that inform design decisions and program milestones.

Responsibilities:

Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of experience with Ansys Workbench and Mechanical APDL performing FEA for stress, thermal, and dynamic analyses.
  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM field or regional equivalent. Master's preferred. Relevant stress experience will take precedence.
  • Strong mechanical design methodology knowledge with cross-discipline understanding of aerodynamics, thermodynamics, manufacturing, and cost engineering.
  • Ability to apply logical, analytical, and innovative thinking to solve complex technical problems and balance technical and business factors.
  • Experience with product integrity, liability, and certification frameworks.
  • Clear communication and presentation skills with the ability to present protected information to stakeholders.
Preferred Skills:
  • Aerospace or turbomachinery experience.
  • Experience integrating into virtual, cross-functional teams and collaborating across programs.
  • Background in nuclear applications, including hydrodynamics, fracture and fatigue assessment, installation, and commissioning.
Role Logistics
  • Reason for opening: New headcount. Reports to Mark Weaver. Team size: 5.
  • Interview process: Virtual to start, then likely in-person based on location.
  • Work schedule: On site 2-3 days per week. 8 hours per day. OT with prior approval.
