Job description

Position Title: Core Component Stress Analysis Engineer

Position Description: Protingent Staffing has an exciting *REMOTE* contract Core Component Stress Analysis Engineer opportunity.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform stress analysis for reactor Core Assemblies using FEA and hand calculations.
  • Present analysis results to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Interface with the Core Component Design team’s engineering design activities.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary Engineering and Project Teams on requirements and inputs.
  • Support continuous learning and application of nuclear industry best practices to maintain the highest quality of engineering design, and proactively identify process change/enhancement opportunities.

Job Qualifications:

  • Education: B.S. degree in Mechanical engineering or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum of ten years of structural analysis experience; relevant M.S. and Doctorate degrees may be credited for up to two and four years of experience, respectively.
  • Experience in using FEA to perform nonlinear analyses with emphasis on ANSYS or ABAQUS.
  • Experience with first-principles calculations and use of references for closed form approximations (Shigley’s, Roark’s, etc.).
  • Experience in scripting languages such as APDL or Python.
  • Familiarity with standalone CAD packages, SolidWorks preferred.
  • Working experience with design codes such as the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC) Section III, Division I, Section III, Division V, Section VIII, Division II, and API 579-1/ASME FFS-1.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • The successful candidate will possess a high degree of trust and integrity, communicate openly and display respect, and a desire to foster teamwork.
  • Strong analytical/problem-solving skills, creative thinker.
  • Ability to work with minimum direction to solve challenging problems.
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks concurrently during a given work week.

Preferred Job Qualifications:

  • Experienced with the rules of ASME Boiler Pressure Vessel Code Section III, Division 5.
  • Experienced with ANSYS in combination with APDL.
  • Experienced with ABAQUS.
  • Experience using nonlinear material models, contact pairing, Elastic Perfectly Plastic (EPP) analysis, fatigue analysis, creep analysis, creep-fatigue analysis, brittle fracture analysis, and buckling analysis.
  • Experienced with hand calculations.
  • Previous experience in the nuclear industry, with an emphasis on core assemblies.
  • Familiar with radiation effects on austenitic and martensitic stainless steel alloys.
  • Excellent calculation report writing and verification skills.
  • Follows and embodies the Company Guiding Principles.

Job Details:

  • Job Type: Contract
  • Pay Rate Range: $65-95/hr.
  • Location: 100% Remote Acceptable.
  • Export control regulations require candidates to be a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Legal Permanent Resident, or of a protected person status.
