About the Role

Otto Aviation is seeking a Senior Engineer, Airframe Stress Analysis to be a member of our team. The ideal candidate has relevant stress analysis experience and a willingness to learn. You will join a team developing the world’s most efficient aircraft. Otto Aviation is seeking engineers who are comfortable working from first principles, work great in a team atmosphere, and get things done.

What You'll Do

  1. Perform stress analysis of metallic and composite structural components, assemblies, and systems to provide inputs to the design and ensure structural integrity.
  2. Author, review, and approve analysis documentation.
  3. Create and/or utilize Finite Element Models (FEM).
  4. Perform Durability and Damage Tolerance (DADT) assessments.
  5. Review and approve engineering definition for release in the product lifecycle system (PLM).
  6. Author, review, and approve structural test plans and reports.
  7. Compare structural test results to analytical models (test vs Finite Element Model).
  8. Develop stress analysis tools and methodologies.
  9. Support multi-disciplinary configuration development and trade studies.
  10. Interface with materials & processes, structural test laboratories, flight test, manufacturing, and customers/regulatory authorities.
  11. Review, guide, and support programs for new, supplemental, and experimental certification under FAR Part 23 sub part C & D.
  12. Mentor junior team members.

Who You Are

  1. B.S. in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent.
  2. 5+ years of relevant industry experience (or 2+ with M.S.).
  3. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  4. Experience with airframe static and fatigue stress analysis for both composite and metallic structures.
  5. Knowledge of industry standard classical analysis methods.
  6. Knowledge of Finite Element Analysis methods (FEMAP experience is a plus).
  7. Experience authoring stress notes and stress reports.
  8. Experience supporting disposition of non-conformances.
  9. Proficiency with CATIA V5/V6/3DX and ENOVIA V5/V6/3DX.
  10. Knowledge of typical airframe structural design criteria.
  11. Knowledge of FAR Part 23 certification requirements and processes.

Otto Aviation is currently a remote workplace culture, with plans to secure a permanent headquarters for our corporate office in the next 2-3 years.
