Job summary

The City of Waco is seeking a dedicated Streets Maintenance Worker to join our Public Works Department. This role performs a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled tasks involved in the maintenance and repair of streets, roadways and infrastructure.

Essential tasks include operating city vehicles and equipment for street cleaning and repair, setting up work zones, and assisting operators. Afterhours responses may be required during emergencies.

Qualifications

• H.S. Diploma or GED equivalent required.
• Valid Texas Driver’s License upon hire required.
• Ability to perform manual labor and related tasks.

Responsibilities

• Performs unskilled and semiskilled manual labor to maintain streets, roadways and infrastructure.
• Operates City vehicles and mechanized equipment for street cleaning, repair and maintenance.
• Sets up work zones and assists equipment operators; cross-trains in PWD skills.

Position Description

Under basic supervision, performs general labor work in cleaning, maintenance and repair of City streets, roadways, and infrastructure for the Public Works Department (PWD).

Essential Functions

• Performs unskilled and semiskilled manual labor tasks to maintain and repair streets, roadways and infrastructure; duties may vary according to job assignment.
• Operates City vehicles and mechanized equipment and performs street cleaning, repair and maintenance tasks; sets up work zone, assists equipment operators as directed and cross-trains in a variety of PWD skills.
• Inspects equipment and tools for proper operating condition; repairs, maintains and adjusts equipment; follows safety precautions in all work performed; reports problems and emergency situations; recognizes, avoids and reports unsafe acts, conditions, accidents and injuries.
• May be required to respond afterhours, including holidays and weekends, in the event of a departmental or City-wide emergency.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
