Job summary

The City of Waco is seeking a Streets Maintenance Worker to join our Public Works team. This position performs unskilled and semi-skilled labor tasks to maintain and repair streets, roadways and infrastructure in the City.

Under basic supervision, you will operate City vehicles and equipment, assist other operators, and follow safety practices while completing assigned maintenance duties. A valid Texas driver’s license is required upon hire; a high school diploma or GED is required.

• 1 year of manual labor experience Preferred

Minimum Qualifications:

Position Description:

Under basic supervision, performs general labor work in cleaning, maintenance and repair of City streets, roadways, and infrastructure for the Public Works Department (PWD).

Essential Functions:

• Performs unskilled and semiskilled manual labor tasks to maintain and repair streets, roadways and infrastructure; duties may vary according to job assignment.
• Operates City vehicles and mechanized equipment and performs street cleaning, repair and maintenance tasks; sets up work zone, assists equipment operators as directed and cross-trains in a variety of PWD skills.
• Inspects equipment and tools for proper operating condition; repairs, maintains and adjusts equipment; follows safety precautions in all work performed; reports problems and emergency situations; recognizes, avoids and reports unsafe acts, conditions, accidents and injuries.
• May be required to respond afterhours, including holidays and weekends, in the event of a departmental or City-wide emergency.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
