Job summary

City of Hopewell is seeking a skilled trades worker to perform maintenance and repair of streets, sidewalks, curbs, gutters, and drainage systems, under close supervision. You will support multiple crews on varied tasks and help keep public facilities safe and accessible.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED, a Virginia driver's license, and the ability to obtain a commercial license and VDOT Flagger certification within six months. On-call and emergency hours may be required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and minimal experience in general construction, maintenance, and/or grounds keeping.
• Possession of a valid Virginia driver’s license is required; CDL and VDOT Flagger certification may be required within six months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Maintains and repairs streets, sidewalks, curbs, and gutters.
• Removes damaged pavement and patches with patching materials.
• Constructs and repairs manholes, catch basins, curbs, walls, drainage lines; finishes concrete.
• Clears roadsides of snow, litter, and vegetation; ensures drainage.
• Mows grass, trims trees and shrubs; sprays pesticides; fertilizes as needed.
• Supports event setup and cleanup; assists with office moves.
• Picks up refuse and transports to facilities; operates various heavy equipment.
• Other crews may require assistance; may work outside normal hours in emergencies.
