Job summary

City of Hopewell seeks a versatile maintenance worker to perform skilled and semi-skilled tasks across streets, drainage, and grounds. You will repair pavement, build and finish concrete, and operate a range of equipment under supervision.

The role requires basic education, a valid Virginia driver’s license, and the ability to obtain CDL and VDOT Flagger certification within six months. On-site work with occasional event support is expected.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED or equivalent required.
• Valid Virginia driver's license; ability to obtain CDL within six months.
• Ability to obtain VDOT Flagger certification within six months.

Responsibilities

• Perform skilled trades on streets, right-of-ways, and related work under supervision.
• Maintain and repair streets, sidewalks, curbs, and gutters; patch damaged pavement.
• Construct, maintain, and repair manholes, catch basins, curbs, and drainage lines; finish concrete.
• Mow grass, edge sidewalks, weed, trim trees and shrubs; spray pesticides; perform landscaping tasks.
• Set up for events, assist with office moves, and move/restore areas after events.
• Operate dump trucks and heavy equipment; assist other crews as needed; on-call shifts.
