The City of Mount Holly, North Carolina is seeking a Street/Solid Waste Worker I. In this role, you will perform routine unskilled manual work related to the maintenance of public streets and the collection of solid waste.

Performs routine unskilled manual work in the repair and maintenance of public streets and facilities and the collection of solid waste; performs related duties as required.
Employees in this position operate daily duties related to street maintenance and solid waste collection. The work is performed under the direction of the Training/Field Supervisor and is reviewed for results obtained and consistency with standard practices.
This position involves very heavy work requiring the employee to exert over 100 pounds of force occasionally and less force frequently to move objects. Physical activity may include climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. Sufficient visual acuity is required to determine the accuracy and neatness of work performed. The employee will be exposed to indoor and outdoor environmental conditions; hazards include exposure to working mechanical parts, chemicals, extreme heat and cold, noise and vibrations, and potential exposure to blood‑borne pathogens.
Ability to understand and follow specific oral instructions; ability to perform manual labor for extended periods, often under unfavorable weather conditions; ability to operate tools and equipment safely; ability to work with others; dependability.
Completion of the eighth grade and some experience in performance of heavy manual work desirable; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Must possess a valid North Carolina Driver's License.
