Job summary

City of Decatur in Alabama seeks a full-time street maintenance equipment operator. You will drive and operate dump trucks, backhoe, and other heavy equipment to repair and maintain city streets, perform safety inspections, and transport materials to work sites.

Responsibilities include flagging traffic, cutting asphalt, maintaining drainage, and ensuring safe, well-maintained streets. Candidates must meet CDL requirements and possess knowledge of safety policies and city geography.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school diploma or equivalent.
• Must possess a current and valid Alabama Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
• Knowledge of the techniques, equipment, and supplies used in street and right-of-way maintenance.
• Knowledge of city and departmental safety policies and procedures.
• Knowledge of the geography of the city, including street names and locations.
• Skill in the operation of assigned vehicles, trucks and equipment.
• Skill in the use of hand and power tools.
• Skill in oral and written communication.

Responsibilities

• Operate single and double axle dump trucks, backhoe, bobcat, excavator, etc.
• Perform pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections.
• Transport materials and equipment to and from work sites.
• Flag traffic and install traffic control devices at work sites.
• Cut asphalt and concrete.
• Operate leaf collector.
• Shoot grade.
• Clean ditches.
• Maintain alleys.
• Build drainage boxes.
• Perform related duties.
