Job summary

The City of Portales, New Mexico, is seeking an Equipment Operator I to safely operate front-end loaders and various trucks or equipment involved in grading, hauling, and maintenance projects. The role requires physical labor, exposure to the elements, and willingness to work irregular hours, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities include routine servicing, logbook maintenance, and reporting malfunctions promptly.

Qualifications

• Current New Mexico Driver’s License required.
• New Mexico CDL, Class B with airbrakes and tanker endorsement required.
• Ability to work with minimum supervision.
• Must follow safety rules and City procedures.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• High school diploma or equivalent desired.
• Previous experience is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Operate front-end loaders (over 8 tons) and other equipment safely.
• Perform routine vehicle maintenance (oil changes, lubrication, etc.).
• Maintain log books and report malfunctions immediately.
• Perform routine cleaning as directed.
• On-call responsibilities for after-hours duties.
