Job summary

Icarus is seeking a Flight Operations Generalist in El Segundo, California, to take our solar-powered aircraft from the hangar to the sky and back. You set up test sites, prepare the aircraft, run preflight, operate in flight, and troubleshoot under engineers’ direction.

You’ll work with FAA, DoD ranges, and airspace authorities to obtain approvals, manage NOTAMs, and schedule ranges, ensuring compliance for every flight. Travel is required to support field operations.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of hands-on experience in airspace management, UAS flight operations, range operations, or aviation regulatory compliance, including equivalent military experience as an air traffic controller, airspace manager, JTAC, Combat Controller, or UAS operator
• Working knowledge of the National Airspace System, airspace classes, special use and restricted airspace, and FAA unmanned aircraft authorizations beyond Part 107 (COAs, waivers, exemptions)

Responsibilities

• Find the airspace: scout ranges and launch/ recovery sites to fit the aircraft profile.
• Get us approved: own FAA and range authorizations end to end with supporting materials.
• Schedule the sky: book range space, manage NOTAMs, and coordinate flight days.
• Exercises and operational employment: support multinational exercises and theater airspace integration.
• Document and improve: build playbooks and capture lessons for engineering and flight ops
