Job description

dotdotdash is a global experience & innovation agency. We decode shifts in culture, technology, and social behaviors to open up space for new ideas, new experiences & new growth. We turn these signals into systems. All to help our clients craft distinctive experiences across the brand ecosystem.

At dotdotdash, we are more than marketers; we are architects, innovators and creators of what’s next. Our name is inspired by Morse code. It’s a nod to our belief in putting people at the center of what we create. And like Morse code in its time, our work reimagines how brands and people communicate.

We’re seeking to grow our team with individuals who share our passion for tangible creativity, our commitment to pushing boundaries, and our belief in the power of participatory experiences. At the heart of everything we do are the principles that guide how we create and collaborate:

  • Play. We embrace curiosity, experimentation and fun in our work and our partnerships.
  • Take Risks. We challenge the status quo and take informed risks to push boundaries.
  • Stay Humble. We lead through example, listening and learning.
  • Adapt. We evolve at the pace of culture and technology.
  • Be Diligent. We commit to persistence and details through delivery.

As a Strategy Director at dotdotdash, you lead strategy that turns complex challenges into experiences people choose to join.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic Leadership
  • Lead senior strategy for a major social account while directing strategy across additional multidisciplinary engagements and new-business opportunities.
  • Turn complex business, brand and human challenges into a clear direction, meaningful choices and an actionable roadmap.
  • Decode emerging signals across culture, technology, and human behavior to identify strategic shifts and new growth opportunities.
  • Determine the right form for each opportunity, whether a brand platform, campaign, social media presence, digital product, service, physical experience, or connected ecosystem.
  • Build strategies rooted in brand, audience and business needs, and social best practices with clear principles and guardrails that keep teams moving in one direction.
  • Guide qualitative and quantitative research, separating evidence, interpretation and hypothesis to surface impactful insights.
  • Translate strategy into clear brand and social foundations, briefs, channel roles, content systems, experience principles, community frameworks and measurement plans.
  • Partner with creative, technology, production, and client leadership, as well as strategists from other disciplines, to carry strategic intent through execution.
  • Build senior client buy-in around the strategic foundation and use it to resolve competing inputs, changing conditions and short-term requests.
  • Lead workshops, working sessions and presentations that create alignment, inspire action and make complex ideas easy to understand.
  • Manage and develop strategists, enabling senior team members to own day-to-day planning and execution while maintaining strategic direction and quality.
  • Operate as a hands-on player-coach, focusing on foundational thinking, pivotal decisions and senior client moments without becoming a bottleneck.
  • Partner with the Group Strategy Director and cross-functional leaders to set the quality bar, delegate work thoughtfully and keep teams aligned.
Growth & Practice
  • Lead additional strategic projects and help grow client relationships through opportunities, proposals, scopes and pitches across agency capabilities.
  • Strengthen the strategy practice at the intersection of brand, social, and experience by evolving methods, tools and points of view, including thoughtful use of emerging technology and AI.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Typically 8+ years in strategy roles within an agency, consultancy, design studio or similarly multidisciplinary environment, with significant brand and social experience.
  • Deep expertise at the intersection of brand and social strategy, with a track record of turning business objectives and brand platforms into durable social systems; substantive experience in at least one additional discipline (e.g. digital, experiential, connections planning, product, or business strategy).
  • A portfolio showing brand strategy carried through into social systems, campaigns, creator and community programs and measurable outcomes, alongside broader multidisciplinary work.
  • Experience leading complex engagements and earning senior client alignment on strategies that hold as conditions and feedback shift.
  • Demonstrated people-management experience, including coaching, feedback, workload planning and career development.
  • Strong command of research and synthesis, with confidence using qualitative, quantitative, cultural, behavioral and business evidence, including social listening, audience and platform data.
  • Exceptional writing, storytelling, facilitation and presentation skills, with the judgment to be clear, persuasive and constructive under pressure.
  • Experience contributing to new business, organic growth, scopes, proposals or the development of strategic offerings.
  • Fluency across brand positioning and narrative; organic, paid and earned social; content, creator and community strategy; measurement; and responsible AI workflows.
  • Comfort moving between foundational brand strategy, long-range social direction and executional detail across multiple fast-moving engagements and categories.
  • Experience in the automotive sector is a plus.
