Job summary

Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory is seeking an Associate Software Engineer to design, develop, and maintain space-operations software in a TS/SCI environment. You will work on scalable, secure systems and contribute to CI/CD pipelines with DevSecOps practices.

Minimum qualifications include a BS in CS/SE and 2+ years of software engineering; familiarity with Docker/Kubernetes, REST, Git, and security controls in classified settings is required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2+ years of full software engineering experience with design methodology and configuration management.
  • Proficiency in at least one modern language (C++, Java, or Python) and Docker/Kubernetes basics.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement backend services, APIs, and data pipelines for space-operations software.
  • Build and maintain containerized applications and contribute to CI/CD pipelines.
  • Integrate security controls throughout development (DevSecOps) and comply with classified environments.
  • Develop event-driven or messaging components (e.g., Kafka/RabbitMQ).
  • Participate in code reviews and learn from architecture discussions.
