Job summary

Columbia University’s Office of Planning and Institutional Research (OPIR) is seeking a Decision Support Research Analyst to design and implement surveys, analyze data, and deliver actionable insights to senior leadership across the university.

The role covers the full survey lifecycle, from instrument design and administration to analysis and dissemination, with emphasis on benchmarking, governance, and AI-enabled efficiency. Collaboration with multiple units and schools is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in statistics, social sciences, educational research, or related field.
• 3–4 years of professional experience in applied research or survey analysis.
• Experience managing the full survey lifecycle—from design to reporting.
• Strong understanding of survey methodology, sampling, and analysis techniques.
• Proficiency in Qualtrics and at least one statistical package (R/SPSS/Stata/Python).
• Experience querying SQL and relational databases.
• Ability to translate data into actionable insights through writing and visualizations.
• Familiarity with Tableau and Power BI for interactive reporting.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement surveys targeting a wide range of audiences.
• Collaborate with units to scope and deliver survey projects.
• Conduct instrument design, pilot testing, and survey programming using Qualtrics.
• Assist in survey logistics including sampling strategies, administration, promotion, and monitoring response rates and data quality.
• Analyze survey results using appropriate statistical techniques and prepare reports, presentations, and visualizations.
• Use data visualization tools to communicate findings to diverse audiences, including senior leadership.
• Research and implement AI applications to increase timeliness and efficiency of deliverables.
