Job summary

Schuff Steel Company is seeking a Purchasing Agent in Phoenix to manage procurement, supplier relationships, and materials planning to support fabrication schedules.

Responsibilities include sourcing, negotiating terms, monitoring supplier performance, and coordinating with production for timely deliveries. Strong steel industry knowledge and five years of purchasing experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• Minimum five years direct purchasing experience in steel fabrication.
• Knowledge of advanced bill of materials and purchasing principles.
• Experience with mill buying parameters and supplier negotiations.
• Strong analytical and vendor management skills.

Responsibilities

• Procurement and supplier management: source materials, negotiate contracts, manage relationships, monitor performance, and control costs.
• Inventory control: monitor stock, forecast demand, minimize costs, and coordinate with production.
• Logistics and delivery coordination: schedule, arrange freight, track shipments and resolve delays.
• PO management: create/verify POs, ensure specs and delivery dates, reconcile invoices.
• Coordinate with project management and production to align lead times and material revisions.
• Risk management: anticipate disruptions and develop backup suppliers; manage contract risk.
• Quality and compliance: ensure materials meet specs and review mill test reports.
• Process improvement: analyze data to identify bottlenecks and improve procurement workflows.
