Job summary

Barnes & Noble Booksellers, Inc. in Chicago, IL is seeking a Specialty Inventory Manager to optimize store inventory across categories, balancing sell-through with assortment strategy.

You will partner with Buyers, Distribution, and Merchandising to determine initial buy levels, manage lifecycle from introduction to Last Chance, and analyze sales trends to maintain optimal stock levels and drive margin.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in retail analytics required.
• Strong analytical skills and knowledge of retail math preferred.
• Experience with inventory planning and sell-through analysis desired.
• Proficiency with internal merchandising and reporting tools a plus (BI, Data Warehouse).

Responsibilities

• Identify appropriate presets for product purchased in collaboration with buyers and visual merchandisers.
• Meet deadlines to ensure timely delivery of product.
• Present inventory buy and allocation strategy to the Specialty team.
• Determine quantities based on marketing, publicity, and calendar plans.
• Identify display quantities for furniture and fixtures with Visual Merchandising.
• Utilize inventory systems to execute allocation strategies.
• Coordinate with Distribution Center to ensure timely stock flow.
• Analyze sales trends and adjust inventory levels across stores.
• Replenish inventory to minimize markdowns and maximize margins.
