Job summary

Tarrant County is seeking an Assistant Director of Risk Management to manage a $1B+ risk portfolio, the county’s self-insurance program for liability, workers' compensation, and property, and to lead a team in mitigating exposures. The role focuses on risk transfer, negotiation, and aligning risk strategies with County goals.

The position requires strong budgeting, analytical, and leadership skills to coordinate across departments and with the Board while delivering training and risk management

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree is required.
• Five years of related experience, preferably in a government agency or property and casualty insurance.
• Multi-line adjuster’s license required within first six months of employment.

Responsibilities

• Oversees the self-insured liability program for the County, investigates claims and negotiates payments.
• Supervises recovery of losses due to negligence of third parties and directs subrogation or lawsuits.
• Supervises the Risk Management and Workers Compensation staff.
• Maintains and reports property schedules and valuations to the insurance carrier.
• Plans and coordinates activities to reduce financial loss and develops risk mitigation strategies.
• Coordinates best value risk financing alternatives and presents options to Board.
• Reviews insurance requirements for County contracts and transfers risk where appropriate.
• Provides risk management programs and training to offices and coordinates external consultants.
• Oversees the workers compensation program and liaises with the TPA.
• Monitors the TPA contract and ensures timely processing of liability claims.
• Plans and coordinates annual budget process concerning risk management.
• Ensures ADA accommodation processes for the public.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
