Job summary

CDC is seeking a Public Health Advisor (Policy and Health Issues Management) in Washington, DC. The role focuses on strategic policy planning, legislative analysis, and high-level interaction with federal partners to advance national public health priorities.

Responsibilities include serving as the principal advisor on congressional and regulatory matters, evaluating programs, and coordinating responses to inquiries.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of organizational, operational, and programmatic concepts and practices applied by public, private, or nonprofit agencies and organizations engaged in public health or other health-related activities.
• Knowledge of the methods, processes, and techniques used to develop and deliver public health or health-related programs in State and local settings.
• Knowledge of a specialized public health program.
• Knowledge of, and skill in, the application of administrative or analytical methods and techniques necessary for working within the framework of a public health or related organization and carrying out specific program functions.
• Skill in oral and written communications, gathering and conveying information, making oral presentations, and preparing reports, correspondence, and other written materials.

Responsibilities

• Develop and guide long-range strategic plans, organizational goals, and policy priorities while advising leadership on planning, evaluation, and performance management to support CDC mission objectives.
• Serve as the principal advisor on congressional, legislative, and regulatory matters by analyzing legislation, coordinating congressional briefings, preparing testimony and policy documents, and ensuring agency positions are accurately represented.
• Evaluate public health programs, identify opportunities for improvement, develop new initiatives, coordinate responses to high-priority inquiries, and build partnerships with federal, state, local, and external organizations to advance CDC priorities.
• Advise senior leadership on complex public health, policy, and oversight issues; coordinate with HHS, Congress, OMB, and other stakeholders; and represent the organization in high-level discussions that influence agency policy and national public health initiatives.
• This position has 20% supervisory duties - candidates must also have demonstrated or shown the potential to develop the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.
