Job summary

Beaufort County Council is seeking a strategic Communications Manager to create, write, publish and share county information with the public and media. You will promote county services, programs, news and events, and assist with crisis communications under the direction of the Public Information Officer.

The role collaborates with county departments, designs promotional materials, manages digital content, and uses data to guide messaging.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in business, liberal arts, or any field other than engineering or the hard sciences.
• Over four years and up to six years of related experience.
• Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.

Responsibilities

• Develops branding and marketing content, including editorials, advertisements, press releases, scripts, and internal staff communications.
• Designs promotional materials such as annual reports, newsletters, engagement materials, and brochures.
• Ensures County branding aligns with visual and marketing standards, advising staff and supporting brand expansion as needed.
• Assists with event planning, outreach efforts, and representation at public functions, including photography and videography.
• Manages content for the County website and digital platforms to engage both citizens and non-citizens.
• Uses data and analytics to drive decisions and strategic communications.
• Coordinates with all County departments to create and distribute internal and external communications.
• Supports crisis communication efforts, including media relations, negative news responses, and reputation management.
• Collaborates with external partners and stakeholders to promote County initiatives through digital and physical media.
• Assists the Public Information Officer (PIO) by responding to media inquiries, developing messaging strategies, and ensuring timely communication aligned with County objectives and departmental workflows.
• Uses industry-standard design and publishing software to create high-quality marketing and outreach materials that follow best practices.
• Publicizes County programs using various media formats, including news releases, speeches, radio/TV presentations, and digital campaigns.
• Performs related duties as assigned.
