Job summary

County of Mendocino seeks a qualified Planning and Building Services Director to provide executive leadership and strategic direction for Planning, Building, Code Enforcement, and Cannabis divisions. You will guide departmental policy, budget development, and organizational performance while engaging with elected officials, staff, developers, and the public.

The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and five years of progressively responsible management experience, including

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in urban or regional planning, public administration, geography, architecture, architectural engineer, land use economics, or closely related field.
• Five (5) years of increasingly responsible management experience in planning/building-related functions, with at least three (3) years in a management role.
• Substitution: nine (9) years of related education/experience with three (3) years in management.
• Licenses/certifications required or desirable: Valid Driver’s License; AICP/desirable; Building Official/certifications/desirable.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership for Planning, Building, Code Enforcement, and Cannabis divisions.
• Develop and implement departmental policies, strategic initiatives, and goals.
• Oversee operations, programs, services, and personnel; promote accountability and innovation.
• Direct budget development and monitor resources and performance.
• Represent the Department with the Board, County leadership, agencies, and the public.
• Fulfill duties per the County Job Specification.
