Job summary

The City of Covington seeks a Planner to join the Planning & Zoning Division. You will perform professional planning duties, support zoning administration, development review, platting, and long-range planning, and assist with code enforcement.

You will serve as a staff reviewer on zoning matters and provide staff support for boards and City Council. You will interact with developers, property owners, and the public to ensure compliance with regulations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Urban Planning, Geography, or related field; equivalent combo of education and experience.
• 1–7 years professional planning experience preferred.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
• Georgia certification/licensure or ability to obtain Level I within 2 years.
• Valid Georgia driver’s license and clean MVR.

Responsibilities

• Assist with zoning reviews, development applications, plat reviews, and planning projects.
• Prepare staff reports, analyses, and recommendations for boards and City Council.
• Provide staff support for Planning Commission, Historic Preservation Commission, and other bodies.
• Coordinate development review comments with City departments and outside agencies.
• Respond to inquiries from public regarding zoning, land use, and development standards.
