Job summary

City of Lexington is seeking a full-time Senior Planner, Zoning in the Planning Services section of the Division. The role focuses on implementing the Comprehensive Plan, coordinating development activities, and supporting the Planning Commission with zoning amendments, development plans, and related reviews.

The Senior Planner will work to preserve neighborhoods, downtown, and the rural Bluegrass cultural landscape while guiding growth and ensuring compliance with zoning regulations.

Responsibilities

• Implements the adopted Comprehensive Plan and coordinates development activities.
• Provides staff support for the Planning Commission, including zone map amendments and zoning appeals.
• Assists with development approvals, subdivision plats, and Board of Architectural Review matters.

Job description

The City of Lexington is currently seeking a full time Senior Planner, Zoning within the Division of Planning. The Division works to provide a vision and strategy that will allow Lexington to grow and prosper while preserving, protecting, and enhancing existing neighborhoods, downtown and the rural Bluegrass cultural landscape.

The Senior Planner, Zoning is located within the Planning Services section of the Division. This sections implements the adopted Comprehensive Plan, coordinates development activities, and provides staff support for the Planning Commission including the Accela citizen portal, zone map amendments (zone changes), development plans, subdivision plats, Zoning Ordinance text amendments, Board of Architectural Review appeals, and cell towers.
