Job summary

Lexington’s Division of Planning seeks to fill 3 vacancies for Principal Planner across three sections. The Principal Planner will serve as the right hand to the Planning Manager, advising and standing in when needed, and coordinating work for Senior Planners on projects city-wide.

The role may involve project management, budget oversight, and leading initiatives across community outreach, long-range planning, and transportation, with emphasis on public input and interdepartmental collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Lead the community outreach and strategic planning tasks for comprehensive plans, small area plans, and corridor studies, ensuring public input and education are priority.
• Oversee long-range planning for Lexington's Comprehensive Plan, Urban Growth Master Plan, Preservation and Urban Growth Program, and Downtown Area Masterplan.
• Coordinate highway and transit planning, MPO activities, long-range transportation planning, land use coordination, and bicycle/pedestrian planning across divisions.
