Job summary

Centrus Energy in Kentucky is seeking a hands-on Mechanical Design Engineer to help design and upgrade piping and fluid systems for critical process environments. You will transition from assisting senior engineers to owning projects with increasing autonomy, while applying code compliance and industry standards.

The role involves sizing pumps and valves, drafting drawings, performing pressure drop and basic thermal calculations, and providing field support during testing and commissioning.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution or equivalent.
• ASME code familiarization, piping-stress fundamentals, OSHA or safety coursework encouraged.
• 2+ years hands-on experience in piping, fluid systems, or process equipment in industrial settings.

Responsibilities

• Design, modification, and layout of facility piping systems with component sizing for pumps, motors, heaters, blowers, valves, and pressure vessels.
• Create, update, and redline mechanical/piping drawings, plans, and specifications in compliance with codes and standards.
• Perform pressure-drop, flow, and basic thermal calculations; assist with CFD/FEA or spreadsheet analyses.
• Conduct pipe-stress and support-structure checks; participate in hazard analyses and quality assurance.
• Prepare ROMs, equipment lists, and technical evaluations to support procurement.
• Provide field support, factory acceptance testing, and commissioning assistance.
