Job summary

YMCA of the Jersey Shore is hiring a hands-on Controller to lead accounting and finance operations. The role partners with the CFO and staff to implement strong financial controls and GAAP-compliant processes across the association.

The Controller will oversee the general ledger, month-end close, and reporting for grants and contracts, while directing a small accounting team and supporting the annual budget and audits. Strong nonprofit accounting experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting required or MBA preferred.
• 5+ years of professional accounting experience, with 3+ in a supervisory role.
• Nonprofit accounting experience strongly preferred.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and accounting/CRM software; knowledge of Daxko is a plus.
• Strong communication, confidentiality, and analytical skills.

Responsibilities

• Maintain the general ledger and prepare monthly financial statements.
• Oversee month-end close, journal entries, and allocations.
• Manage financial reporting for contracts and grants, ensuring regulatory compliance.
• Lead budgeting process with senior management involvement.
• Oversee annual audit process with external accounting firm and IRS filings.
• Provide financial analyses to support strategic planning and debt management.
