Job summary

LHH Recruitment Solutions has partnered with a mission-driven nonprofit to recruit a Controller for a temp-to-perm role in Philadelphia. You will oversee accounting operations, partner with senior leadership, and strengthen financial controls and reporting as the organization grows.

The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor's in Accounting/Finance, 5+ years nonprofit accounting, GAAP expertise, budgeting and forecasting experience, and hands-on proficiency with accounting software and advanced Excel.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within a nonprofit or regulated environment.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting.
• Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and audit preparation.
• Hands on systems experience with accounting software and advanced Excel.
• Ability to work in a fast paced environment, manage deadlines, and adapt to evolving priorities.
• Collaborative, detail oriented, and growth minded professional.

Responsibilities

• Oversee all accounting operations including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and revenue recognition.
• Manage month end and year end close processes and ensure timely, accurate financial reporting.
• Prepare and review financial statements, budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Oversee audits, including coordination with external auditors and preparation of supporting schedules.
• Monitor grant, contract, and restricted funding to ensure proper tracking and compliance.
• Develop, document, and improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
• Partner with leadership to support financial planning, strategy, and decision making.
• Supervise and mentor accounting staff, with opportunity to build and develop the team.
