Job summary

Vail Valley Foundation seeks a Chief Financial Officer to lead all accounting and finance functions, provide strategic vision, and ensure operational excellence for multiple nonprofit entities, including governance and reporting to the Board.

The role requires overseeing a team of five accounting/finance staff and three IT professionals, with reporting to the VVF President and key committees. On-site in Avon, CO, with a base salary of $190,000–$210,000.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required with CPA, Masters of Finance or Accounting, or MBA.
  • Proven skills in managing a team and coaching staff to achieve results.
  • Commitment to accounting integrity and transparency.
  • Alignment with the mission of a nonprofit organization and stakeholder collaboration.
  • Strong Excel proficiency and financial modeling capabilities.
  • Solid knowledge of IRS rules governing gifts and donor advised funds.
  • Experience with charitable gift structures and related regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to work independently and manage competing demands with tact.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems compliant with GAAP and regulations.
  • Manage the budget and forecast process across departments.
  • Communicate financial insights clearly to stakeholders and leadership.
  • Lead complex analyses to identify risks, opportunities, and enterprise value.
  • Oversee monthly and year-end forecasting, auditing, and capital campaigns.
  • Prepare financial reports for the Board and committees and participate in board meetings.
  • Guide procurement strategies and manage cash flow to meet ongoing needs.
  • Collaborate with executive team on benefits, risk management, and IT needs.
