Job summary

Brown & Brown is seeking an Underwriter I to evaluate and quote prospective new members and renewals in our Washington state operations. You will make independent underwriting decisions, ensure accuracy in quotes and policy docs, and support underwriting strategy.

The role requires a high school diploma, progression toward a WA Property & Casualty license within 12 months, and prior insurance experience or a related degree.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• Obtain Washington State Property & Casualty license within 12 months (courses and testing provided).
• Preferred math skills such as basic accounting or business math.
• Prior insurance experience or college degree.

Responsibilities

• Make independent underwriting decisions using discretion.
• Underwrite new applications and renewals per guidelines.
• Determine acceptability of business and maintain underwriting integrity.
• Provide training to Underwriter I and Assistants as requested.
• Assist in developing underwriting rates, guidelines and strategies.
