Job summary

Brown & Brown in Washington state seeks an Underwriter I to evaluate and quote new member programs and renewals. You will make independent underwriting decisions and uphold underwriting guidelines while focusing on policy profitability.

Responsibilities include reviewing applications, determining acceptability, maintaining integrity of underwriting practices, and supporting the development of underwriting rates. Training and collaboration with teammates are anticipated as part of this role.

Qualifications

• High school diploma.
• Must obtain WA Property & Casualty license within 12 months (courses and testing provided).
• Math skills such as business math or basic accounting functions are preferred.
• Prior insurance experience or college degree preferred.

Responsibilities

• Make independent underwriting decisions using discretion.
• Underwrite new applications and renewal submissions according to policy.
• Determine acceptability of business.
• Maintain integrity of underwriting practices.
• Provide training to Underwriter I and assistants as requested.
• Assist in formulating underwriting strategies for growth and profitability.
• Implement methods for promotion of policies or improvements to processes.
• Review competitor quotes, binders, and policy forms to provide comparisons.
• Assist marketing programs to carriers along with existing and prospective insureds.
