Job summary

Afton Scientific, a Virginia-based contract manufacturing organization, seeks a Buyer Planner to ensure timely material availability, manage inventory, and build strong supplier relationships. The role supports manufacturing, projects, and regulatory/compliance documentation within a cGMP context.

Compensation ranges from $29.00 to $36.00 per hour, with placement based on qualifications, experience, and internal equity.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience in inventory management.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
• Strong organizational and detail-oriented skills.
• Good communication and issue-resolution abilities.
• Ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Proactive problem-solving mindset.

Responsibilities

• Obtain supplier quotes and procure materials for manufacturing and project requirements.
• Serve as the primary contact for assigned suppliers and maintain productive relationships.
• Monitor open purchase orders and coordinate delivery dates with suppliers.
• Closely manage critical material orders to prevent disruptions to manufacturing.
• Monitor inventory levels (raw materials, in-transit, consignment).
• Maintain MRP data and coordinate material deliveries to minimize shortages/excess.
• Perform material planning including allocations and pick lists.
• Draft and review supply chain and quality documentation (SOPs, specs, Supplier Non-Conformances, quarterly DEA reporting).
• Assist with cycle counts and physical inventories to support accuracy.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives in supply chain efficiency, compliance, and cost control.
