Job summary

The Chronicle of Higher Education, Inc. seeks a Senior Manager of Materials Engineering Management to direct and mentor engineers in materials selection, testing, and failure analysis across research and production contexts.

You will lead research strategy, guide laboratory operations, and collaborate with design, manufacturing, QA, and procurement teams. You will oversee safety, training, equipment, and SOP development while managing personnel performance and procurement planning for materials

Qualifications

• Equivalency statement: 1 year of higher education can substitute for 1 year of directly related work experience.
• Senior Manager level: requires bachelor’s (or equivalent) + 8 years or master’s (or equivalent) + 6 years of related experience.

Responsibilities

• Technical Support & Equipment Oversight: manage shared lab equipment; provide user training; update SOPs; handle billing for equipment usage.
• Advanced Characterization & Research Support: conduct high-level sample characterization; write reports; compare vendor quotes; coordinate with users.
• Instructional and Faculty Support: train TAs and students; maintain teaching equipment; collaborate on equipment use and procurement planning.
• Laboratory Operations & Maintenance: order supplies; maintain inventory; perform maintenance and alignments; coordinate vendor visits.
• Safety & Compliance: maintain safe labs; ensure training; draft SOPs; manage hazardous waste disposal.

Education

Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Materials Science
